The weather cooperated for once and we have a lovely, sunny day for May Day this year. In keeping with traditions old and new, I have managed to do the following in honor of the holiday:
* washed my face with the dew on the grass first thing this morning(I was reminded about this tradition by Hecate, see sidebar). I have to say, with the morning traffic whizzing by my front lawn, I felt a little funny out there in my PJs (yeah, this isn't a location for going skyclad) wiping dew on my face, but it's supposed to make me beautiful, so hey. Every bit helps, no?
* wore pink and green. Pink blouse with a flower detail, lacy camisole underneath and green pants.
* wore my springiest, most floral perfume.
* bought new flowers for my altar.
* picked violets from the side lawn -- those ended up on the altar, too.
* engaged in some GUERRILLA GARDENING! I planted sunflowers, larkspur, cilantro, bells of Ireland, and lavender in front of my house (shh! Don't tell the landlord!), in the parking lot at the YMCA where I work out, and near the creepy passageway at the park down the street. I'll keep you posted on how well they do. I might find some more places to do it (and more courage), so I'll be sure to update and track my criminal behavior for y'all.
* did some green reading from the latest issue of Orion magazine. I especially enjoyed Barbara Hurd's personal essay about starfish. I also was saddened and outraged by "The Gospel of Consumption" by Jefferey Kaplan.
I also had a total, effing meltdown because I thought I had lost S's graduation invitation. He's graduating tomorrow, and seating is limited. I panicked and cried hysterically -- it was awful. Then I found it -- S had moved it. But I didn't stop crying. I was just bawling and bawling (Moon is in Pisces today. Figures.). So I told him about it and he sent me a cute text and an email response about how wonderful, beautiful and intelligent I am and how much he loves me. Sigh.
So, with any luck, tonight we can participate in some more "Beltane" activities. ;)
